Akala ng iba, porke't nasa showbiz ang mga artista, e, wala na silang pakialam sa mas malalim na depinisyon ng Pasko sa kanilang buhay. Puro kasiyahan, porma at gastos lang daw kasi ang nakikita ng ilan sa mga showbiz celebrities pero ang totoo, kapag wala na sa limelight ang ating mga taartits, e, malalim rin ang kanilang pakahulugan kung Pasko ang pag-uusapan, lalo na't ngayong inulan ng trahedya ang ating bansa.

Kaya para mapatunayan sa ating mga loyal readers na ang ating mga celebrities, e, parang ordinaryong tao rin na may puso't damdamin, isa-isa namin silang tinanong at narito naman ang kanilang mga sagot.

Ano ang kahulugan ng Pasko sa gitna ng trahedyang naranasan ng ating bansa nitong nakaraang mga buwan?

Radio Astronomy

Radio astronomy is a subfield of astronomy that studies celestial objects at radio frequencies. It differs from radar astronomy in that the latter utilizes artificial, rather than natural, radio sources. The initial detection of radio waves from an astronomical object (the Milky Way) was made in the 1930s, but subsequent advances (especially post-World War II) have identified a number of different sources of radio emission. These include stars and galaxies as well as entirely new classes of objects, such as Radio Galaxies, Pulsars and Masers. The discovery of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation was a particularly significant event. Radio astronomy is conducted using large radio antenna referred to as radio telescopes, that are either used singularly, or with multiple linked telescopes utilizing the techniques of radio interferometry and aperture synthesis. The latter has allowed radio sources to be imaged with unprecedented angular resolution.

Galaxy

(plural galaxies) specifically, the name given to the band of stars, numbering one hundred thousand million bodies, which includes the Sun, and is alternatively called the Milky Way. The galaxy has a spiral structure and is approximately one hundred thousand LIGHT YEARS across. In general usage it refers to a collection of stars held together by gravitational forces. They form different shapes including spiral, elliptical and irregular galaxies and range from dwarf galaxies with 100 000 stars to massive galaxies such as the giant elliptical M 87 which has three thousand billion stars.

A galaxy is a massive, gravitationally bound system that consists of stars and stellar remnants, an interstellar medium of gas and dust, and an important but poorly understood component tentatively dubbed dark matter. The name is from the Greek root galaxias [γαλαξίας], meaning "milky," a reference to the Milky Way galaxy. Typical galaxies range from dwarfs with as few as ten million (107) stars up to giants with one trillion (1012) stars, all orbiting the galaxy's center of mass. Galaxies can also contain many multiple star systems, star clusters, and various interstellar clouds. The Sun is one of the stars in the Milky Way galaxy; the Solar System includes the Earth and all the other objects that orbit the Sun.


Historically, galaxies have been categorized according to their apparent shape (usually referred to as their visual morphology). A common form is the elliptical galaxy, which has an ellipse-shaped light profile. Spiral galaxies are disk-shaped assemblages with dusty, curving arms. Galaxies with irregular or unusual shapes are known as peculiar galaxies, and typically result from disruption by the gravitational pull of neighboring galaxies. Such interactions between nearby galaxies, which may ultimately result in galaxies merging, may induce episodes of significantly increased star formation, producing what is called a starburst galaxy. Small galaxies that lack a coherent structure could also be referred to as irregular galaxies.


There are probably more than 100 billion (1011) galaxies in the observable universe. Most galaxies are 1,000 to 100,000[4] parsecs in diameter and are usually separated by distances on the order of millions of parsecs (or megaparsecs). Intergalactic space (the space between galaxies) is filled with a tenuous gas of an average density less than one atom per cubic meter. The majority of galaxies are organized into a hierarchy of associations called clusters, which, in turn, can form larger groups called superclusters. These larger structures are generally arranged into sheets and filaments, which surround immense voids in the universe.


Although it is not yet well understood, dark matter appears to account for around 90% of the mass of most galaxies. Observational data suggests that supermassive black holes may exist at the center of many, if not all, galaxies. They are proposed to be the primary cause of active galactic nuclei found at the core of some galaxies. The Milky Way galaxy appears to harbor at least one such object within its nucleus.

X-ray Astronomy

stars emit a variety of electromagnetic radiation including X-rays, but this is unable to penetrate the Earth's atmosphere to be detected. Very hot stars send out large amounts of X-rays which can be detected by equipment contained on space satellites. The satellite ROSAT launched in 1990 has equipment to undertake X-ray astronomy and obtain information about distant bodies in space (e.g. WHITE DWARFS and SUPERNOVAE) that are emitting X-rays.

X-ray astronomy is an observational branch of astronomy which deals with the study of X-ray emission from celestial objects. X-radiation is absorbed by the Earth's atmosphere, so instruments to detect X-rays must be taken to high altitude by balloons, sounding rockets, and satellites. X-ray astronomy is part of space science.


X-ray emission is expected in sources which contain an extremely hot gas at temperatures from a million to hundred million degrees kelvin. In general, this occurs in objects where the atoms and/or electrons have a very high energy. The discovery of the first cosmic X-ray source in 1962 came as a surprise. This source is called Scorpius X-1, the first X-ray source found in the constellation Scorpius. Based on discoveries in this new field, Riccardo Giacconi received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2002. It was found that the X-ray emission of Sco X-1 was 10,000 times greater than its optical emission, based on a precise location obtained with a modulation collimator - a specific type of coded aperture imager. In addition, the energy output in X-rays is 100,000 times greater than the total emission of the Sun in all wavelengths. It is now known that such X-ray sources are compact stars, such as neutron stars and black holes. The energy source is gravity. Gas is heated by the fall in the strong gravitational field of celestial objects.


Many thousands of X-ray sources are known. In addition, it appears that the space between galaxies in a cluster of galaxies is filled with a very hot, but very dilute gas at a temperature between 10 and 100 megakelvin (MK). The total amount of hot gas is five to ten times the total mass in the visible galaxies.

Galactic Rotation


the rotation of the GALAXY, and all its gas, stars and dust, which increases towards its centre. The rotation near the SUN is approximately 250 kms-1 and to make one galactic orbit takes the Sun in the region of 250 million years.

The rotation curve of a galaxy can be represented by a graph that plots the orbital velocity of the stars or gas in the galaxy on the y-axis against the distance from the center of the galaxy on the x-axis. Stars revolve around the center of galaxies at a constant speed over a large range of distances from the center of the galaxy. Thus they revolve much faster than would be expected if they were in a free Newtonian potential. The galaxy rotation problem is this discrepancy between the observed rotation speeds of matter in the disk portions of spiral galaxies and the predictions of Newtonian dynamics considering the visible mass. This discrepancy is currently thought to betray the presence of dark matter that permeates the galaxy and extends into the galaxy's halo. An alternative explanation is a modification of the laws of gravity, such as MOND (Modified Newtonian Dynamics).

Among the Stars


Judy Ann's memories of her early days in the business are peppered with anecdotes about how
she had to fight for recognition among the big leaguers and the stars of network-produced shows. Who would have thought that one day, she would become one of them? Or even become one of them?

Judy Ann isn't the type to trust people easily. She keeps to a close circle of friends, mostly because she is shy and doesn't want to expect too much. Over the years, she's learned that she's most hurt when she trusts most. Direk Joyce Bernal, with whom Judai had a little tampuhan back in 2007, has experienced the highs and lows of their friendship: "Si Joyce, si Ga [director Dante Nico Garcia, who's been her friend for nearly 15 years], nung nagkatampuhan kami, taon talaga bago nag-usap. Pero kahit di kami nag-uusap ni Direk Joyce that time, nagpapadala pa rin ako ng regalo kay Liam [Direk Joyce's daughter, who is Judy Ann's inaanak]. Masakit 'pag nagkatampuhan kayo dahil mahal mo 'yung tao. Pero hindi naman lahat ng tao, ganoon. Merong iba, madali akong nakapag-move on."

That what Judy Ann is like as a friend. Her friendships with showbiz's big leaguers are just as invested and precious, probably because she was once one of those who looked at them from a distance. She used to be outside the circle of big stars. When she did Magkapatid opposite Sharon Cuneta in 2002, she wasn't expecting to form a real bond with the Megastar, a bond that has lasted seven years now. Sharon, who also grew up in the business, is probably the one person who understands what Judy Ann went through, the only difference being that Sharon, unlike Judy Ann, did not experience the humiliation that Judy Ann did, being thrown out of a dressing room to give way to stars of network-produced shows, or hearing people laugh behind her back in the corridors. "Si Sharon, isa siya sa mga artista na di ko in-expect na magkakaroon ako ng very deep connection: isang malaking tao who would help you analyze things and help keep you grounded. Di alam ng tao na na-i-inspire ako, na na-re-refresh ako by a simple kiss or a hug from Ate. It's very precious, very sincere."

The actress is vocal about how much she admires Sharon's accomplishments in her career and personal life. "Marami akong natututunan kay Ate Sharon; (she's) very talented, she's a good mom, and she's a good wife. Hindi ko man masundan 'yung yapak niya, kahit man lang sana wisdom niya. Ako, masaya na ako na naging magkapatid kami sa pelikula at hanggang ngayon, ganun pa din 'yung turingan namin. Most prized possession na 'yun sa sakin," Judai explains.

The actress also considers Maricel Soriano (her co-star in I Will Survive in 2004) and the late Fernando Poe Jr. (Isusumbong Kita sa Tatay Ko, 1999) as two other big stars who gave her invaluable advice.

FPJ, who Judai fondly calls Tatay Ron, reminded her to treat everyone fairly, and told her: "Sila rin ang makakasalubong mo sa paglingon or sa pagbalik mo."

Her Ate Marya, Ate Sharon and Tatay Ron all reminded her that she must pour her heart into what she is doing. "Sabi nila, mahalin ko lang 'yung trabaho ko, 'yun 'yung isa sa mga nakapagpapangiti sa akin," she shares. "I was able to work with these people. I was able to hear them out base sa personal experiences nila."

Galactic Halo


a collection of stars, gas and dust, nearly spherical in shape, which has the same center as the galaxy. It contains population II stars and creates a lot of the background radio emissions.

The term galactic halo is used to denote an extended, roughly spherical component of a galaxy, which extends beyond the main, visible component. It can refer to any of several distinct components which share these properties:




The distinction between the halo and the main body of the galaxy is clearest in spiral galaxies, where the spherical shape contrasts with the flat disc. In an elliptical galaxy, there is no sharp transition between the body of the galaxy and the halo.

Soviet Stars Go West


Imagine winning $100,000 and only being able to spend $50 a day.
That's what happened in 1988 when a Soviet doubles tennis team won at Wimbledon. Under the Soviet system, they were only allowed to spend about $50 a day in England.

This may soon change. We may soon see many Soviet stars in several fields allowed to market their talents in the West.

A new venture, called Moscovy Management International, will soon be negotiating on behalf of Soviet scientists, artists, actors, performers, fashion models and sports stars. The venture aims to help the stars retain more of their money and market their talents freely.

Gary Kasparov, world chess champion, will almost certainly be one of the stars involved in this venture. He is a key figure in the move to bring Soviet talent to the West, and was one of the first to gain more control over his own career.

Canadians will be especially interested in luring the best ice-hockey stars to their teams. And basketball teams in America will be taking a closer look at the Soviet Olympic basketball teams.

The Soviet Union is the only country ever to have beaten the United States at basketball in the Olympics, in 1972 and again in 1988.

More Soviet sports stars in the West will add to the growing internationalization of sports.
