Eclipse

the total or partial disappearance of one astronomical body by passing into the shadow of another. A solar eclipse occurs when the new moon passes between the earth and the sun. A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon moves into the shadow of the earth, i.e., the earth is situated between the sun and the moon.
